6 Hair Protection Tips For Summer

Summer can bring a few challenges to your hair, for the summer heat can damage your locks, give you a very oily scalp, and can you believe it  – your hair can even turn green.

For peace of mind though here are some amazingly simple hair tips to help you through the summer months.

1. Wash Less

Resist washing your hair every day during summer. Frequent washing strips your scalp from its natural oils, stimulating an additional production of oil. So to wash your hair less, on break days make sure to rinse your hair with cold water since it closes the cuticle and seals its moisture. A great ‘do it yourself’ treatment, to control oil secretion in your scalp, is to mix two to three tablespoons of coconut water with the juice of one lemon. Apply the mixture to your scalp and massage it for five minutes before rinsing it with cold water. For best results, do this as a weekly treatment.

2. Fight The Frizz

Do you ever feel like your hair increases in size the very moment you step outside on a humid day? Frizzy hair is definitely a challenge, especially in the summer months.  Create an easy-taming spray by mixing argan oil with water. This helps moisturise your hair while taming it against the humidity. And if you’re running late and don’t have that much time, then apply hairspray to your brush and run it through your hair, which will lock your frizzy and rebellious locks in place. In addition, avoid brushing your hair with regular brushes, and consider switching to a double-set wide teeth comb as the former causes natural curls to frizz.

3. Drink More Water

By drinking more water, not only is it indispensable for your body and mind, but it also does wonders to your hair. Remember that water will always hydrate your hair and scalp. In addition to drinking two to three litres of water a day, make sure that you’re eating delicious healthy foods that are boosting hair growth.

4. Take Advantage Of Keratin Treatments

Too often coloured hair gets ruined and damaged from exposure to salt water and sun. This is because heat and sun oxidize your hair colour, leaving your beautiful hair dry. Keratin Treatments can help revitalise and rehydrate our hair, bringing it back to life.

5. Reduce The Heat

If you’re going to spend a long day in the sun, apply a deep conditioner containing SPF protection or cover your scalp with a hat. Another way of protecting your hair is to avoid heat styling as much as possible.

6. Limit The Chlorine Damage

If you happen to plunge into a chlorine pool, the key to avoiding the greenish colour and chlorine damage is to prep your hair before taking a swim. Since dry hair acts like a sponge, you can rinse your hair with tap water before you swim in order to ensure it will absorb significantly less chlorine. After swimming, rinse your hair with some apple cider vinegar and water, and that will limit further chlorine damage.
